The February 27, 2023, tornadoes in Arkansas, Missouri, Illinois, and Kentucky caused damage and injuries. The NWS reported 13 tornadoes in these states. The NWS warned of tornadoes in Tennessee and Mississippi.
Snow, rain, and strong winds accompanied the tornadoes. On Monday, CNN reported over 100 million individuals under winter weather alerts. The storm knocked down electricity for people in numerous states.
The tornado outbreak followed a week of extreme weather in Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi that killed six and injured dozens. Scientists warn climate change may increase tornado frequency and intensity.
